[ENG] 10.4. [DKSF 52/202.10 IU] How to Configure Pinger in the Module «Logic»?

To configure a pinger, there is a need to go to the page «LOGIC» of a device web interface:

In the section «Pinger» it is possible to configure the testing of the availability of a specified IP address/DNS name via the network. A result of testing (pinger status) can be chosen as an «input» to the logic rule. It is possible to learn how to configure a rule in the module «Logic» from the section «[ENG] 10.2. [DKSF 52/202.10 IU] How to Use the Module «Logic»?». It is possible to configure no more than two pingers – «PINGER 1», «PINGER 2». A typical use of a pinger is automatic switching on a power of a backup equipment when a connection line fails.

Configuring pinger in a NetPing device

Address – is an IP address/DNS name of a device, tested for availability. An empty line disables polling. On default: empty line

Polling period, s (5-900) – a value is chosen taking into account how rapidly the failure must be discovered. Also, there is a need to note that too frequent switching of power can decrease a lifetime of the equipment. If there is no response, ICMP echo (ping) is repeated after timeout is over and not when there is the next polling period. On default: 15

Ping timeout, ms (100-10000)  is a time of waiting for a response to ping. Timeout is chosen when taking into consideration a speed of local network operation and the frequency of repeating unresponded pings. If there is no response to ping when a specified timeout is over, then sending ping is repeated immediately. If after five repeated sending there is no response, a status of a pinger is changed to «silent», and repeats are stopped until the next polling period starts. On default: 1000

Status possible values are: «responds», «silent», «-». If polling is not completed, a status can be undefined. In this case, the rules that depend on a pinger status do not create any commands and their outputs are managed by other rules or are kept in the previous status. A pinger status is updated automatically nearly four times a minute.

If domain names are used, there is a need to note that the module «Logic» will not be able to determine the availability of a requested address because of the unavailability of a DNS server or a lack of an IP address in the settings. «Pinger» is switched to the status «silent».

After the values of a pinger are set, there is a need to click the button «Apply changes».
